Archie Manning delivers the keynote speech.

When people think of Archie Manning, they think football. But his appeal transcends his athletic achievements. People far and wide have been inspired by his warm personality, his drive, and his sense of humor.

Mr. Manning is esteemed in the football world for his leadership on and off the field. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he was named an All-American quarterback and is the only Ole Miss player whose number and jersey have been retired. In 1992, he was named Mississippi’s greatest all-time athlete. He was also named the state’s most popular athlete of the century. Mr. Manning spent 14 years in the professional ranks following his record-setting seasons at Ole Miss. Most of his football career was spent with the New Orleans Saints. In 1978, Mr. Manning was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player. During his playing years in the NFL, he also received a number of humanitarian and sportsmanship awards, including the Byron “Whizzer” White Humanitarian Award and the Bart Starr Humanitarian Award.

Today, Mr. Manning continues his leadership off the field.  He serves in public relations and consulting capacities for a number of companies.  He also continues to lead humanitarian efforts, including the Archie Manning Cystic Fibrosis Benefit Golf Tournaments in Louisiana and Mississippi.  He was recently named one of 10 outstanding New Orleanians by Family Service of Greater New Orleans. Mr. Manning’s sons continue his legacy.  Son Cooper is an institutional broker in New Orleans. Sons Peyton and Eli are NFL quarterbacks for the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants, respectively.  Both have been named Superbowl MVP.

He and his sons also operate the Manning Passing Academy, a summer camp for high school quarterbacks and receivers. In honor of the Mannings’ college football accomplishments, the Sugar Bowl has created the Manning Award which is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback.
